English to Chinese Medical History and Report

This program allows one to ask medical questions in English which are translated into Chinese and spoken using pre-recorded, concatenated Chinese voices: (http://www.moosenose.com/pinyin.zip). Presets are provided covering most of the questions involved in a Review of Systems. The questions can be customized to a particular patient and saved. The patient's responses can be saved and printed also. In addition, questions directed to specific diseases have been provided. I used Google Translate for the presets and Chinese Romanization Converter to convert the tones to numbers.

One may Save or Open Patient Questions and History..

The specific diseases are available above. More may be added in the future.

The report can either be in English, Chinese or both.

When one clicks a topic such as Rheum, the list is populated.

When an item is selected, the question is asked aloud and a response may be Yes, No or Customized. One may also add the question to a customized list.

The customized list appends all selected questions. You may add the questions from any that are displayed in the checked listbox above. These questions can be save and recalled for subsequent patient encounters.

The responses likewise can be recorded, saved and printed.

Adding new questions is tedious but can be done as follows:

1. Create a file in the Program Directory: PatientName.cus (use any patient name desired).
2. Copy the English to the clipboard and Paste it into this PatientName.cus
3. Create a file in the Program Directory: PatientNameCH.cust
4. Translate English into Simplified Chinese using Google Translate.
5. Copy the Chinese to the clipboard and Paste it into PatientNameCH.cust
6. Create a file in the Program Directory: PatientNamePY#.cust
7. Click this link Chinese Romanization Converter to direct your browser.
8. Change the Upper Dropdown box to "Hanyu Pinyin (tone marks)"and the bottom one to "Hanyu Pinyin (Hanyu Pinyin (numbers)"
9. Copy the Pinyin from Google Translate (Displayed below the Simplified Chinese) and Paste it into the top box and hit convert.**
10. Copy the contents of the bottom box into the file: PatientNamePY#.cust
11. Save All Files
12. Now when you open the program and select Files>Open Questions you can open PatientName.cus and it will be loaded into the list.
13. Do not change the order of the questions in the files unless you change the order of the same questions to the same line in each box.
14. As I said, it is tedious. The program pronounces the numbered Pinyin and displays the English, Pinyin and Simplified Chinese.

** I've just noticed that Google Translate no longer provides Pinyin.

• A simpler solution is to use this website which converts Simplified Chinese directly into Numbered Pinyin: http://hktv.cc/hp/hanzitopinyin/.
• You may skip # 7 - 9 and just copy the numbered Pinyin as in #10.

One must add selected questions to the Custom List in order to save them.

The source code is actually included with the compiled version and doesn't require a download.

If you download the source from Planet-Source Code (above), you will need to first run the project and then manually unzip the voices into a subdirectory in the program directory: \pinyin. These can be downloaded by Clicking Help>Add Voice Files (http://www.moosenose.com/pinyin.zip). The \pinyin directory can be opened by clicking Help>PinYin Directory.
